Each spring the National Cherry Blossom Festival® annually commemorates the gift of 3,000 cherry trees in 1912, from the Mayor of Tokyo to the city of Washington. It was to celebrate the continued close relationship between our two cultures and honor the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan.
